| I became a CCIE in January of 2003. I would be happy to answer any certification related questions that you have. |

Cisco does say that there have been some removed topics, and this was extremely helpful to me while I was studying because I knew that I didn't have to master these protocols, although some basic knowledge is helpful for many reasons.
Cisco Says the following have been removed from the practical exam (although they still may appear on the written):
| Quote: |
* LAT
* DECnet
* Apollo
* Banyan VINES
* ISO CLNS
* XNS
* ATM LANE
* X.25
* AppleTalk
* IGRP
* Token Ring
* Token Ring Switching
* IPX

You can remotely test backup interface by shutting down the connected router's interface.
